Up and till last week I was still of the asumption that this place was still being used by Brooks. How wrong one could be, infact it seems like its been empty for over a year and being in St Werburgs a combination of pikeys and sqatters have started to trash the place. That’s not to say its not got a hidden gem or two, its almost as if it was left overnight and the staff never returned. Sadly our visit was cut short when some rather unpleasant looking chaps appeared on site. I don’t think they were there for security purposes either.

I worked at Brooks for 8 years back in the 80’s.. It really was a one off kind of place and a proper melting pot of employees. Regret leaving but the wages were crap..

It is interesting to read about Brooks Dye Works in Bristol. And l remember when it was in use back in the 1990’s. The above photos are interesting as they do look as if everybody has just got up and left without notice. If l remember correctly – it was raided by immagration and closed down immediately due to wrongful employment practices.

very excitingly the Brooks dye works site has been used last week as a film set for Eliminate Archie Cookson – a debut feature film being shot in Bristol.

My grand mother (Ada Cross) used to work in Brooks Bye Works when she lived nearby in Brooklyn Street, back in the 1920’s. I have looked for the street on current day O/S maps, but it is not shown. It may be no more or possibly renamed. I know it was there because it’s on my Fathers’ and Uncles’ birth certificates.

I have been there and seen with my own eyes people systematically cutting and removing all the copper & lead from the building. This has caused major water dammage to the building structures. Granted the whole place will probably be flattened in time for some souless flats so it probably doesn’t matter. I accept the point it may not be squatters doing this.

I wasn’t there for security purposes but I didn’t try to suggest I was, unlike others who tried to say they were.

your comments that squatters have trashed the place is completely wrong squatters are the only people i know that have bee trying to tidy areas of the site up to live in and use some of the usefully resources in the buildings. The people trashing and trying to set fire to the place have been the local youths living not squatting in the area
PS you weren’t there for security purposes ether
