Taken during the previous visit but this time on my new film SLR. Bought on eBay for an extremely expensive £10 and used with my 50mm f1.8 prime lens.
Film used: Kodak B&W 400CN

West Park was the last mental hospital to be developed on the Horton Estate, having been planned since 1906, prior to the opening of neighbouring Long Grove asylum. Initial development to have been completed for opening in 1916. From 1917 the main hospital was largely complete and utilised by Canadian Military, and subsequently handed back to London county council. The complete hospital was anticipated to hold approximately 2,000 patients of mixed class. The hospital started a phase closure in 2003 and by 2005 was almost completely disused except for some male wards and other little area on the site.

Hi, We are a group of researchers looking after Horton Cemetery, where many of the Epsom Cluster dead were buried. Now a derelict site, we are hoping to bring back a bit of respect tot he dead. If anyone can help us in our quest, that would be great. Especially any photographs fo the cemetery site pre-1985 when it still resembled something nice.
We are also writing stories for the forgotten, so if you have any relatives buried here, and can provide any stories or photographs, that would be amazing, please reach out.

Its pretty much on its way to being gone, went today and there’s no way of getting in and all I could hear was the crumble of buildings 🙁

Wow brilliant photo’s! I grew up near this place when it was still open and it was surrounded in mystery. Me and my brother did stumble upon a escapee though one day nearby in the fields, she was tangled in barbed wire!

Oh right, that really sucks! Do you know anywhere else that is around London where we’d be able to do it? It’s not going to be an overly large party, just a few of us dressed up to scare ourselves if you get what I mean.

We aren’t going there to cause any damage, just fancy a scare for Halloween. If you know anywhere else which is similar but not tight on security, would you let me know, that would be great! Thanks 🙂

I expect the on site security will be happy to call the police if you do. Given that demo is starting and there is a lot of valuable equipment in there, I’d advise it’d not be a clever thing to do at all. They’ve recently started installing PIR’s in corridors too.

Basically, we want to have a massive party in there, do you reckon this is going to be possible at all? We are thinking of going around Halloween, and about 10pm. Thankyou!

Not long left for this site now. Apparently work on conversion and development of this place begins at the start of next year.

Security will be tighter i’d expect to.

Firstly, it’s not a ‘mental asylum’ – its a mental hospital or lunatic asylum. (sorry bug bear)

I’ve been twice in the last month, it’s still there.. it’ll be there for a while longer. Go careful as you may get nailed in by the rather active and hammer happy security.

When did you last visit the mental asylum because I might be going up this sunday…if its still there and not reconverted?

    thanks
