Ystrad Mynach Hospital closed in late 2011 to make way for the new £172m Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital on the other side of the road. Several of the areas local hospitals closed to make way for a state of the art 250 bed hospital aimed at triggering a major change in provision of secondary care services for patients across Caerphilly county borough.
